Venue Information

The Vancouver Convention Centre (formerly known as the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre, or VCEC), is a convention centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; it is one of Canada’s largest convention centres. With the opening of the new West Building in 2009, it now has 466,500 ft² (43,340 m²) of meeting space. It is truly a showcase for the City of Vancouver and with it’s LEED Platinum status it speaks strongly to the burgeoning Green Building industry in Canada and Vancouver.

Faciant Participation 2005-2010

Nigel Wilcox – Owners representative for the Integrated Communications Systems

  • Representing the owner in meetings with architects, engineers, suppliers and contractors
  • Evaluating RFP responses for voice, data, cellular, wifi, lighting and building controls, fire alarm, security/surveillance/access control, and a/v contracts
  • Contract negotiations (scope and deliverables) with Bell Canada, Siemens and other suppliers
  • SPOC between contractors and owner for all aspects of the design, supply and installation of communications equipment and related construction infrastructure
  • Contract administration for the supply and installation of integrated building controls systems reviewing design plans, construction drawings, shop-drawings and mockups
  • Developing sequence-of-events for control systems integration
  • Performing on-site inspections and progress billing reviews
  • Participating in reviews for LEED certification, life safety and code compliance
  • Participating in weekly design, planning, project and construction meetings
  • Chairing weekly technical meetings
  • Conducting deficiency reviews

Through various contracts with Bell Canada, Pavco and AVW-Telav the Faciant team was responsible for the following additional Scope:

Cabling Infrastructure and back-up power

  • Service Access Drops: 7500 + CAT6 horizontal cable drops
  • Backbone Cabling: copper Cat 6, Air-blown fiber, SM and MM Installation, 8.5 route kilometers of backbone fiber!

Wired/Wireless Local Area Network

  • Private/Public shared WLAN Access

  • Implemented the network infrastructure consisting of two server rooms, 39 wiring closets, and in time to support building commissioning activities and the opening of both the expansion and renovated wings of the Vancouver Convention Centre.
